Britský spisovatel fantasy.

Philip Pullman se narodil 19. ríjna 1946. Již v dětství ztratil otce, který byl pilotem R.A.F. Vyrůstal tak pouze se svou matkou, nevlastním otcem a také se svým dědečkem, který byl duchovním na anglickém venkově. Nějaký čas studoval v Oxfordu na Exeter College. Poté několik let učil angličtinu na střední škole než se stal asistentem na Westminster College v Oxfordu. Jeho prvními známými knihami se stala trilogie Sally Lockhart, která vyšla v letech 1988-1992 (obsahovala svazky The Ruby in the Smoke, The Shadow in the North a The Tiger in the Well). V roce 1996 vydává The Golden Compass (také s názvem Northern Lights, u nás Světla Severu), což znamenalo začátek jeho slavné "fantasy" trilogie His Dark Materials (u nás Jeho šerá hmota). Následovaly knihy The Subtle Knife (1997) a The Amber Spyglass (2000). Za tuto trilogii obdržel několik významných ocenění. Žije v Oxfordu se svou ženou Jude. Má dva syny - Jamieho a Toma.
